Steps to Unify Berkshire Visiting Nurse Associations
After six months of prep nine Berkshire County VNAs move toward unified operations with a standard referral form and a common progress report. These forms, approved by the Berkshire District Medical Society, will be used for physician referrals. Nine will stay independent while coordinating functions. The Berkshire Rehabilitation Center helped launch the effort, with Dr. Vincent Barnaba calling the VNA nurse the backbone. Plans include a joint Health Fair exhibit next April to showcase VNA services and facilities. Agencies in the plan include Board of Health Dalton, Community Health Association Richmond and Stockbridge, VNA of Great Barrington, Lee VINA, Lenox VNA, VNA of North Adams, Pittsfield VNA, Stockbridge VNA, and Williams town VNA.

Kennedy urged her to study nursing and promised to attend her graduation, a pledge he could not keep. Hennessey began nursing for the Kennedys in the 1930s, accompanied the family to England during Joseph P. Kennedy’s ambassadorship, and has assisted at many grandchildren births and adult illnesses since then. Her home is Walpole and she works at the Wrentham State School.
