Sheffield Bidder Wins Dump Care Contract for Town Dump
The Board of Health awarded David Riiska of Sheffield a dump maintenance contract at 64 dollars per day for caretaker and bulldozer work plus 0.90 per yard for fill. Riiska’s bid was second lowest. Alpine Construction Co. of Sandisfield, led by Francis Deming, bid 40 a day for bulldozer, 20 for caretaker, and 1 per yard for fill. Engineer Henry D. Granger supported Riiska, noting similar costs when fill is counted and Riiska’s readiness for special cleanups, plus proximity to the dump. Selectman Paul J. Gibbons said the town will assume dump maintenance once a sanitary superintendent is hired, using funds from the sewer account for the first year.
