Rock at Tanglewood Opens Contemporary Trends Series

Tanglewood opened last night to a young crowd for the Contemporary Trends series featuring the Staple Singers and Tren Butterfly. The Staple Singers offered gospel rock takes on hits like Take a Load Off Your Mind while comments on race era themes appeared in several songs. A dramatic electric organ solo and extended instrumental improvisations kept the audience engaged, culminating in a 20 minute In-a-Gadda da-Vita duel between drums and organ that drew enthusiastic reaction. Joni Mitchell and the Butterfield Blues Band were announced for July 22 in the same series. Sign up for U S Savings Bonds and New Freedom Shares.
