Bishop Defregger Identified as Nazi Order Giver
The Munich auxiliary bishop Matthias Defregger was named as captain of a German army unit in Italy who ordered 17 unarmed Italian villagers shot in 1944. Prosecutors noted he did not deny giving the order but said he did not carry it out himself. The killings were classified as manslaughter due to lack of premeditation.

Senate weighs official bilingual status for Canada
OTTAWA AP The Senate considers a bill making French and English the official languages of the federal government. The House passed it on Monday and the Senate is expected to approve. The measure creates a language commission and bilingual districts where 10 percent do not speak the prevailing tongue, allowing French language rights in designated areas. Public schools remain provincial and largely English in most regions.
