Battles Across Vietnam Heat Up Near Da Nang
In South Vietnam's northern provinces, government infantry and U.S. Marines clashed with enemy forces Sunday. Marine losses included one killed and one wounded. enemy casualties were not disclosed. Government forces claimed 17 NVA killed five miles below the DMZ and 18 Viet Cong killed along the Mekong River. Field reports tallied two government dead and 41 wounded in two fights, with 16 enemy rocket and mortar attacks causing limited casualties. Civilian deaths included three killed and seven wounded by mortar shells in Saigon markets. Overall Allied forces reported 26 soldiers and civilians killed and 103 wounded from Saturday night into Sunday morning attacks.
