Temple of Aphrodite found in ancient ruins in Cnidus
New York Times notes the discovery of the temple of Aphrodite at Cnidus in Turkey, a circular Doric shrine housing a large nude statue once carved by Praxiteles. Excavations by Iris C. Love suggest the great statue may still lie at the site, with evidence including a 55 foot diameter temple and 18 columns.

Rum Abolished in Royal Navy Amid Modern Tech Demands
The Lords of the Admiralty announce the abolition of the rum ration in August as modern warships rely on complex electronics. Admiral Sir Michael Le Fanu says the change suits a fast reacting fleet, while petty officers may buy small quantities of duty free spirits and officers may still access rum on special occasions. Ratings and marines get extra beer allowances, and splicing the main brace remains.
