Conservation Commission opposes bylaw change

Lee Conservation Commission voted five to zero at a special meeting to oppose Articles 33 and 34 in the annual meeting warrant. The proposed zoning would allow auto junkyards in rural business districts, including an Nolan property yard off Route 26 north of town. Nolan said the yard would dismantle cars eight years old or less, sell parts, and scrap the rest. Officials raised concerns about oil and gasoline drainage into a brook that feeds Laurel Lake, air pollution from burning upholstery, and the yard’s proximity to Route 20 and local drainage. The commission's five members present opposed the bylaw change.
