Frazier Wins Yet Again Seeks Easier Path for Clash

Joe Frazier bashed Jimmy Ellis for a five round knockout at Madison Square Garden to retain the heavyweight crown and taunt Cassius Clay. Ellis fought hard but could not answer the bell for the fifth, leaving Frazier undefeated in 26 fights. Promoters eye a London bout and a possible title defense against the Ellis winner. The crowd of 18,600 and about $600,000 in receipts underscored the event’s big draw.
