Fund for Blind Goes Over Goal
The Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind surpassed its $2000 goal by $72 at last night’s meeting at the Portuguese American Club. Herbert Sabin was elected president, officiating as retiring president Clayton Bradley received a tape recording. A $50 grant for household needs was approved. Michael Quagliano won a cake donated by Prentiss Bakery. About 33 attendees.

Trial Nears End In Auto Crash Fatal to Sutphen
Athens New York truck driver Frank W Roberts appeals a Berkshire District Court verdict for failing to keep right after a Sheffield crash that killed Earle Sutphen, former Sheffield Board of Selectmen chief of police. Roberts testified he stayed in his lane as Sutphen’s car came from the opposite direction at about 40 mph. Sutphen died the next day at Fairview Hospital. Disposition yesterday saw two defendants plead guilty with fines mirrored to the appeals. Allen A Rice of Sheffield paid 100 for auto insurance violation and 10 for unregistered vehicle, due Feb 26. Robert A Bond of 61 Harris Street paid 100 for failure to stop, 25 for speeding, 10 for no registration, due March 2.
