Gov Volpe’s sixth sales tax bill dies in the Senate 21 to 19. The main path to resolving the tax impasse lies in two bills passed this month, one from the House and one from the Senate. The House bill would raise about 116 million dollars while the Senate measure would bring in around 158 million.

Six Lives Lost On Northern Berkshire Roads In 13 Days

Adams reports a sixth death on Northern Berkshire highways in thirteen days after Lawrence E. Hull, 23, of North Adams, crashed his Vickswagen convertible off East Road. Police said a passerby found Hull’s car in a ditch near the town dump with the front end demolished. Investigations continue as the prior fatality, Otto Wittig, 46, died after being struck on Route 8 Monday night. Hull, a New Haven native, worked at Sprague Electric Co. Funeral services will be at Sacred Heart Church Gardner with burial in St. John’s Cemetery Gardner, arrangements by Field Funeral Home Gardner.
