Three More Seek Callaghan Seat in City Council Race
The field for the councilman-at-large seat grows as three more men announce bids after Patrick E. Callaghan’s resignation. Ward 2 Councilman Raymond E. Crow nominates Alfred A. Barscz. William M. Pigott and John J. Martin also enter. Barscz notes years of attendance at meetings. Pigott cites his 9,000 votes in the last at large race and precedent in Boston. Martin confirms interest and intent to run, possibly as a compromise if convention deadlocks. Six candidates now total with Murphy Broyles Eksuzian named by other council members, as Mayor Haughey calls a special convention with the mayor voting only to break ties.
