Picture evokes local family link to Vietnam war image

The Eagle ran a Vietnam War photo on its front page showing a wounded South Vietnamese soldier evacuated by an American medic near Duc Lap. Local readers recognized the medic as WO 1 Edward J. Klemanski, a 21 year old Berkshire County man from Pittsfield, serving as a helicopter pilot in Chu Lai. His mother confirmed the likeness after receiving the clipping. Klemanski, a Pittsfield High School and Berkshire Community College graduate, joined the Army warrant officer program in June and trained at Fort Polk, Fort Wolters, Fort Rucker, and Bell Huey flight school. He has been in Vietnam since June.
