Meetings Set For Pittsfield Teachers

All elementary teachers in Pittsfield are ordered to meet their principals on Tuesday at a.m. Then they will join a general session with Superintendent Thomas Whalen at South Junior High at 1 p.m. Secondary teachers meet with Dr Whalen at South at 2:30. Afterward they hold meetings at their own schools. South hosts orientation for 130 new teachers Thursday.

Pittsfield Suit Settled In Dolly Trip Case

The Superior Court case involving Grand Union Co. and Mrs. Capeless of Pittsfield over injuries from a moved dolly fall at a Pittsfield store has been settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. February 1, 1946.

Three Receive Degrees From Local Institutions

Mrs. Brian J. Ashe, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Padget, graduated August 16 from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing after Pittsfield High School. Anne Marie Grimaldi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grimaldi, earned a BS in elementary education at C. W. Post College and will teach first grade this fall while pursuing a master’s. Lawrence E. Tallman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tallman, graduated from a program at GE in Pittsfield and moves to Bridgeport as manager of sales planning for the home appliance division. he and his wife plan to relocate with their four children. Edward P. May, former employee in Pittsfield, has been appointed manager of sales planning for GE’s home appliance division in Bridgeport. his family will move soon. A University of Evansville graduate with a BA, he is a Pittsfield High School alumnus now with the Evansville Police Department, married to Ruth Duvall of Newburgh. Gov. Sargent faces Berkshire-focused bills: one to let Berkshire County Commissioners take over water rights to Richmond Pond, and another to authorize Adams-Cheshire Regional School District to convey land in Adams to the Adams Fire District.

Trailer Association Rally At Bousquet This Weekend

A regional rally of the Air stream Trailer Association is set at the Bousquet ski area this weekend with eighty eight trailers already registered for the three day event. Several trailers travel from distances of five to six hundred miles.

GE and IUE Hit Snag Over Union Recognition Clause

GE and IUE negotiators spent a fourth bargaining session in New York haggling over the first article of the proposed contract. The company held firm on its language for union recognition as union leaders pressed for joint safety committees and around the clock nurse and doctor coverage. Shambo said the union would press to change language before discussing economic terms.

Dunkin Donuts Awards Two $50 Scholarships

Dunkin Donuts at 18 First Street awards two $50 scholarships to employees Judith Fulgi niti and Anne Marie Swano w, daughters of local residents. Recipients meet criteria of one year service, college acceptance, financial need, and intent to attend a four year college. Owner Edward Hughes plans annual awards tied to gross sales.

District Court Finds Several Citizens Guilty on Various Charges

Officer Francis Winpenny testified as Jesse Patterson of 292 Columbus Ave and Robert Archie of 299 Linden St were found guilty of multiple charges. Patterson was fined for operating under the influence failing to stop and operating without a license. Archie was fined for allowing an improper person to drive and drunkenness. George H. Tubbs Jr. of 468 Fenn St paid fines for failing to stop speeding and unnecessary noise while not guilty on a second speeding charge. Gallagher Jr. pleaded guilty to operating to endanger and was fined. Goebel continued to Sept 8 after pleading not guilty to all counts. Several others had prior speeding fines recorded.

Mrs Ella M Warner 85 formerly of Pittsfield died yesterday in Northampton. Widow of Harry O Warner born in New Jersey she lived here for years. Survived by sister in law Mrs Clara Warner of Rye NY. Friends may call at Wellington Funeral Home tonight 7 to 9. Services tomorrow 2 at the funeral home Rev Merlen C Levering of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Pittsfield Cemetery.
