Lenox selectmen discussed breaking the current lease with Lenox National Bank for first floor space and signing a new five year agreement to avoid rental increases as town offices may need more space amid population growth. The matter was referred to Town Counsel for review.

Fire destroyed the wooden barn of Fire Chief Os car R. Hutchinson on Tucker Street in Lenox last night. Chief Hutchinson summoned two Central Fire Station trucks after James A. Quinn alerted him at 9:30 p.m. Firefighters wetted down the nearby house to prevent damage as flames rose about 100 feet. No valuables were in the 2 1/2 story structure. old post office and station furniture had been removed years ago.

In Lee District Court William RR. Banton Jr. of Rochester was charged with operating under the influence and with no license or registration, plus drunkenness, and his appearance bond of 100 was set for Sept. 2. Richard Blanchard of Concern, New Hampshire pleaded to an operating to endanger charge. Aug. 14 accident occurred at Jacob's Ladder summit in Becket. Fines were imposed on several locals for speeding and related offenses, including Michael Tobin, Alfred Veratti, Robert Putnam, Jeffrey Canon, Harold Altschaft, Herman Rooney, John Virgilio, Wren Memains, and Barbara Alter. Federated Church in Lanesboro reports 105 total enrollment for two weeks of vacation Bible school with an average daily attendance of 75. Pratt Urged to Finish Junk Car Clean-Up by Sept 30
Police Chief John J. Boyne told Lee District Court Judge John J. Dwyer that Arnold K. Pratt of Pine Street South Lee is removing junked cars from his property. The case, continued from July, involves a not guilty plea to storing unregistered motor vehicles. Boyne asked to push the date to Sept 30 to allow Pratt to complete cleanup, noting more than 30 cars removed and 15 to 20 remaining. Pratt has faced repeated court appearances over two years but is now credited with attempting to obey the unregistered vehicles law.
