Lenox Bus Detour Linked to Bridge Over Housatonic
Lenox officials urged the state to build a new Housatonic River bridge on New Lenox Road after deeming the existing span unsafe for school buses. Detouring via Pittsfield would add about 24 miles daily and cost $2,500 more for transportation. Dufour Bros. offered to shuttle unloaded buses if liability waivers were granted. The town has $168,000 in Chapter 90 funds yet the bridge work remains delayed since 1961.
