At Tanglewood Van Cliburn, backed by Leinsdorf, delivered a Brahms D minor Piano Concerto with refined clarity while Debussy nocturnes moved the Boston Symphony and Berkshire Chorus to a hushed glow. The night drew 11,816 attendees as Ancerl conducted Smetana My Land, with Krips leading Haydn and Schubert on a damp weekend.

Magazine Claims British Plot To Kill Hitler

West Germanys Der Spiegel reports that in 1938 the British military in Berlin proposed assassinating Hitler but London vetoed the plan. Attache Noel Mason-McFarlane, who died in 1933, allegedly suggested Berlin apartment as a sniper perch near Hitlers reviewing stand. The offer, according to papers donated to the Imperial War Museum, was dismissed as unsportsmanlike by Whitehall and Westminster.
