History of the double bass in jazz and Chuck Israels rise
The piece traces the bass’s rise from plucked roots in 1911 to Blanton’s 1939 revolution, notes Pettiford Heath Brown and Hinton, and spotlights Chuck Israels of the Music Inn Jazz Trio in Lenox. Richard Powers Vermont art show reviewed by Gilbert
The one man show by Richard Powers at Summer Gallery in Bennington presents a bold personal view of Vermont. The critic notes Powers seeks to bridge human and inhuman elements through restrained color and structured composition while acknowledging not all viewers will agree with his abstract departure from strict representation. Powers, a freelance artist and Eagle cartoonist, has previously exhibited in the Berkshires and works with political cartoons for The Eagle.
