Nuclear fallout link to 400,000 US baby deaths disputed
University of Pittsburgh physicist Dr Ernest Sternglass claims fallout from nuclear tests caused over 400,000 US baby deaths since 1950, a theory challenged by Atomic Energy Commission expert Dr William Bibb and other federal scientists who insist data are incomplete and misleading. The government scientists caution the theory could frighten the public and stress poverty as a more likely factor in premature births and infant mortality.
