Miss Kuzia Joins VNA Staff in Pittsfield Ward 6B

Miss Bernice J. Kuzia R N of Meadow Street Housatonic will begin working today for the Pittsfield Visiting Nurse Association in Ward 6B. She replaces Mrs Randolph Cotton who moved to Phoenix with her husband transferred by General Electric. Kuzia, a Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing graduate, did private duty in Great Barrington and worked in veterans hospitals in Albany and Newington. She later did private duty at Pittsfield General Hospital and then supervised ancillary personnel at Pittsfield General Hospital until mid July.

PittsfieldYouth Arrested in Lee for Suspended License

Timothy L. Stanton, 19, of Weller Avenue Pittsfield, arrested Saturday in Lee for operating a car with a suspended license. Bail set at $100. He will appear in Lee District Court Thursday night. Lee police made the arrest.

Bunt seeks Ward 7 council seat in third bid

William A. Bunt announced his candidacy for Ward 7 City Council, calling the ward neglected and pledging impartial representation. The Pittsfield native, former police patrolman and GE foreman, seeks a third try after a 1961 defeat by 45 votes.

Mardi Gras Parade Lineup Announced for Tomorrow Night

The Department of Parks and Recreation announced the Mardi Gras parade lineup for tomorrow at 7. The procession begins at East and First Streets, circles Park Square, heads to Wahconah Park where floats are dismantled. Leaders Shaun Keegan and Bonnie McCabe of West Memorial Playground ride in an open convertible with 20 royal couples representing 21 play areas. A drum corps exhibition follows at Wahconah Park to benefit the 1954 Citizens Scholarship Foundation, led by Mar. Selkawitz and John Bresnahan, with Monarchs Cavaliers Imperials Skyhawks among participating corps.

Seven Injured In Accidents Over Weekend

Seven people were injured, none seriously, in weekend traffic accidents handled by local and Pittsfield state police. Names include Marjorie Strochlin, 39, who faced an operating-to-endanger charge. Charles Garivaltis, 29, and Gerald Rufo, 29, hospitalized after a crash on Ebb Street. 16-year-old David Schilling, involved in a roadway accident on Peck's Road. Patrick Pullaro, 38 Circular Ave, and Henry Bishop, 60 Backman Ave, in a collision at Merriam and Catherine streets. a Pittsfield juvenile charged over a motor scooter incident on Gulf Road. and several minor incidents on South Street and Worth/Wahronaty streets.

Local Men Convicted of Assault in Washington

Two Pittsfield brothers and a 43 year old companion received suspended jail terms for assaulting Washington police chief Joseph Furlong. Peter Pulaski Jr. got two years probation under a suspended six month sentence, Robert Pulaski Jr. and Louis Parreault received suspended three month terms and two years probation. Readiness to stay out of Washington was ordered with strict probation supervision.

Skyhawks win circuit contest in Millers Falls

The Skyhawks Junior Drum Corps scored 76.33 points to win Class B in the Yankee Circuit Association contest in Millers Falls on Sunday. Paramounts of Worcester took second, Lithuanian War Vets of Shrewsbury finished third, and the Skyhawks also won best color guard. They perform in Pittsfield Tuesday for the Mardi Gras parade and an exhibition at Wahconah Park.

Arlene Atkinson of Pittsfield leads 25 suits filed in Superior Court totaling $889,200. The record action seeks $250,000 against Lawrence V. and Lawrence J. Premeriani of Great Barrington for a Lenox Pittsfield Road auto crash on February 2, 1963. Other cases include $100,000 claims in Dalton and West Springfield auto accidents and a $60,000 suit over alleged false statements in Egremont. Lesser actions total $79,200 with multiple $10,000 and $5,000 entries across Berkshire and adjacent counties.

Car Rams Tree Injures Local Man in Pittsfield

A Pittsfield man identified as 21 year-old Frederick Ripley of 175 Burbank Street collided head-on with a tree near the Yellow Astor Restaurant on South Street at about 11:35 a.m. He was transported by police ambulance to St Luke's Hospital with ankle and possible stomach injuries. The car was badly damaged. firemen responded but no fire occurred.
