Five drum and bugle corps competed for 1500 in prizes at Pittsfield Monarchs Show of Shows. Boston Crusaders won with 77.5 points and 700, Cavaliers second, Imperials 33.8 after a 10 point penalty, with Musketeers and Brain Tree Warriors also performing.

Camp Doctor Charged With Lacking License

GREAT BARRINGTON Mark Yarty 3 of Waadsile N Y pleaded not guilty in Southern Berkshire District Court to practicing medicine without a license at Silver Birch Camp in West Stockbridge. He was released on $499 bail. The case was continued to August 14 at the defendant's request. Yarry alias Robert M Mayer and Robin Baker was arrested yesterday morning by Troopers Jurek and Celli and West Stockbridge Police Chief Gennari and Constable Lashoones.

James Keegan Memorialized as Boys' Club Leader and Referee

James Keegan longtime Boys' Club superintendent and nationally noted football referee is remembered for building a major campus with a large pool and training programs. Born Aug 11 in Adams he guided the club from 1920 and married Irene Lambert in 1938. Survived by wife and three children plus two sisters and several grandchildren. Junior Drum Corps to Play at CSF Benefit in Pittsfield

John T Maher Sr 62 of 88 Third St died at home after a long illness. He was born in Pittsfield son of Cornelius and Catherine Ryan Maher and served in the Pittsfield Police Department. He worked 31 years for Eaton Paper Corp and earlier as a printer for Excelsior Printing Co North Adams. He was a communicant of St Josephs Church and member of Pittsfield Review of Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He and Anastasia Rioux observed their 37th wedding anniversary last May. He leaves his wife two sons Capt John T Maher Jr and Pvt Robert J Maher both with the Pittsfield Fire Department four sisters seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Man Falls To Death At Bash Bish Falls

Augustus L Taylor 23 of Washington DC assistant counselor and director of the Youths Work Camp in Sheffield fell to his death at Bash Bish Falls Mt. Washington Sunday afternoon. Police say he aimed to reach the top of the falls and his body was found about 100 feet below after companions reached the top. Medical examiner ruled skull fracture and other injuries. His body taken to Stevens Funeral Home Great Barrington and to be shipped to Washington DC. The camp is run by Sheffield Projects Inc with about 20 youths from Puerto Rico and New York City. Previous fatalities at the falls include Eileen Reiter and E Cranston Sutphen. The Rev. Dr. William Vail Wilson Davis died here in 1910 when his carriage was swept over the falls.

Frederick Broderick, a Pittsfield attorney of 14 Taconic Street, was released on $30 bail after pleading not guilty to driving under the influence and breach of the peace in New Lebanon New York.
