Janus Films presents a color screen version of Synge's The Playboy of the Western World produced by Brendan Smith and Menis O'Dell. Brien Desmond Hurst directs with Sio bhan McKenna and Raymond in leading roles for a Berkshire Museum run of 99 minutes. The film highlights the West of Ireland setting and outdoor coastal shots, though critics note reduced intimacy versus stage. McKenna delivers Pegreen Mike with polish, while Raymond portrays Christy Mahon as bravado and tragedy unfold among innkeepers and villagers.
