Lillie Ross a 14 year old girl was abducted at Rippey by Frank Hodges. Hodges invited the girl and her brother to ride, then raced through Rippey into Marion county. The boy exited at the house and the girl was taken to a farmer’s house near Dawson where Hodges claimed the girl as his wife. Hodges, 28, is in custody.
H Ralph, from Rockford, found dead in woods near Charues City on January 17. Skull crushed and body frozen, a possible foul play case. a search party uncovered him beside a felled tree, with no sign the tree caused the death. Also, R F Kneehs in Germany convicted of fraudulently entering the mare Bethel as Nellie Kneehs. Rene, Iowa, fined 1000 marks, nine months jail plus three years civil rights loss. mare confiscated.
In Oman on January 17 Annie Royster reports that her father killed her lover and she has nothing to live for. E W McFarland at Boone recently suicided here by taking chloroform.
Don C. Hall, a hypnotist from New Hampton, burned himself when a kerosene lamp exploded during an exhibition in Lawler. The flames were smothered by a bystander’s overcoat. Hall, identified as Mgr. Hall, was severely burned and may not survive.
J. K. Graves and five children sue Key City Gas Co for 4000 dollars each for failure to supply gas to the Graves mansion under an alleged contract. The case was begun January 16.
January 16 report from Britany about Hans Erickson of Belmond area selling diseased hogs at Goodell. Officers arrested him. his wife died of fright and Erickson reportedly went into a rage.
Jemarkable divorce case from Burlington Tenpixerox notes that 65 year old BE Yost of Mediapolis was granted a divorce by Judge Smyth and, fifteen minutes later, obtained a license to marry widow Mrs Willie C. Frost aged 51 whose husband, a Methodist minister, died recently. The marriage followed immediately at the courthouse.
Des Moines reports Henry Van Devan killed in a bicycle collision on January 15, suffering a skull fracture and dying hours later. In Des Moines an IL Hurbach bank fraud case sees D T Stanley and J H D Stanley arrested on charges of taking deposits while insolvent. Iowa Millers elect officers urging continued wheat production. A threshing boiler explosion near Watertown injures workers without fatalities. Sigourney notes George Terrell found dead in a cornfield, suspected suicide.
The Des Moines Bank of Commerce assigns assets as indictments are issued for S. R. Dawson over a son in law’s death.
