Meanwhile in Augusta Maine Feb 8 John L Stevens US minister to Hawaii under Harrison is critically ill.
Springfield reports the state live stock association alerted to a fatal horse disease in Wyanet Bureau county eight horses died. Dan Shelby, manager of a Wilkes-Barre music hall, died suddenly of heart disease aged fifty seven. Paris reports a Montceau les Mines explosion with about thirty killed. An omnibus bill paying southern war claims worth 713663 was defeated. A currency bill debate rule set aside three days. Gettysburg National Military Park bill passes senate. Carlisle forecasts calendar year receipts to exceed expenditures by 22563023.
New York dispatch reports Diaz government warns against sensational Guatemala news and notes progress in peace talks between Minister Mariscal and Commissioner Leon. No termination of boundary dispute indicated. Mexican troops remain in disputed area after logging camp destruction by Guatemalans was reported.
Two more bodies presumed to be Elbe passengers have been brought to Lowestoft. One remains unidentified while the other is Edward Markowitz of Bude Pesth. The body brought Tuesday is not H Pschunder chief steward of the Elbe as first believed.

Henry Studke died yesterday afternoon after attempting to halt a runaway team in front of his fiancée’s Lima, Ohio home. Thrown to the ground, he succumbed a few hours later. The fiancée, who witnessed the tragedy, fainted and is reported dying. The couple planned to marry in a week.
Atchison Kansas reports James Nutt, who attacked Mrs. Payton and Leonard Coleman, will not speak to reporters. Authorities note repeated quarrels between Nutt and Mrs. Payton. Latest word says Mrs. Payton may recover, but motive remains unclear.
Constantinople reports the sultan granted a life pension to the widow of Mr. Stupe, director of the Metropolitan railroad, who was killed by a drunken soldier on January 20. The incident involved an American citizen and drew immediate attention locally.
A populist legislator in Guthrie Oklahoma introduces a memorial asking Congress to reduce the salaries of the President, Congressmen, Senators and all federal officers by one third. The move is part of a broader populist push in the February session.

The fireboat Foley searched until early morning with no sign of survivors as temperatures hovered 20 degrees below zero. The Foley returned to port at 2:30 a.m. with the missing crew undetermined.
Alexander Kennedy, 94, said to be East Tennessee's oldest man, died in Blount County leaving 26 children and over 1000 grandchildren. Severe weather stretches from Alabama to Texas with deep cold, snow, and hunger reports. a white man was found frozen near Birmingham and railroads suffer in Knoxville.
