A spirited Boosters Club drive has residents of Vinton optimistic as a city hall meeting drew about 300 people with expectations of 500 more tonight. Organizers urge all Vintonians to join and boost for the town, aiming to attract a railroad and new manufacturing plants while pledging growth in population and prosperity.
Sunday service includes a quarterly meeting and Love Feast at 9 17 a m, Morning Worship and Communion at 10 30, Sabbath School at 12 m, Epworth League at 6 p m with the topic Association unto Salvation, Evening Worship at 7 p m on The Man of Gadare and The Man of Galilee.

Harold, little son of Mr and Mrs Chester Johnson, died of diphtheria Sunday morning after a weeklong illness. The city extends sympathy to the bereaved family. Tom J. Ridge topped the Single Comb Brown Leghorns at the Cedar Rapids poultry show last week, taking first and second pullet prizes and second and third places for pullets, plus second and third in the hen and cockerel categories among more than twenty birds entered.
J P Smouse has bought out Chas Lee and is now in possession of the bowling alley. Lee ran the business for over two years and leaves many friends who regret his retirement. Smouse is well known in Vinton and is expected to succeed in the business.
Henry Morris Bryson son of Lewis W and Ann Morris Bryson born May 7 1865 died November 27 1906 aged 41 years 6 months 20 days leaving a wife three children a brother and sister and many relatives Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Bear Creek with Mr Cleveland preaching and Prairie Creek church providing music.
Rev J R Berry formerly served the Kankakee IL Methodist church, preached the morning sermon on I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision, to a large audience of old friends and parishioners. An impromptu reception followed, and in the evening he spoke on the power of music in religion while Mrs Berry sang, pleasing the audience.
Tilford Academy starts its winter term with a strong student body and experienced head Prof Tobin. The school has shaped Benton county, and many county candidates in the last election were Tilford graduates. The institution enjoys wide popularity among youths in Benton and nearby counties.
Tuesday evening a large reception at the home of Mr and Mrs C W Miller honored newlyweds Mr and Mrs Earl Miller who wed in Indiana. About 150 guests attended a five course supper. Miller is noted as a promising local figure and the bride has already won many friends.

Anna Kimm married Archie Kimm at the bride’s mother Mrs. Mary Cluett home on Wednesday evening officiated by Rev. Robinson of the M. E. church. The ceremony featured a wedding march with rooms decorated in potted plants and flowers. Only relatives and intimate friends attended, the bride hailed from a respected Blakestown family and the groom from a family central to Benton county.
The Christian Church announces a series of Evangelistic meetings starting next Lord's Day at 10:00 AM led by Bro. Chas C Stout of Des Moines. The evangelist aims to bring many to Christ and invites all to attend every evening and the Sunday service. Sunday school met at noon with 212 present last Sunday.
A limited time offer presents subscriptions to both the weekly Iowa State Register and Farmer and the Times for one year at 1.25 dollars. Existing subscribers will get an extra year. The Iowa State Register and Farmer is promoted as a farm and home magazine with numerous illustrated features and departments.
Miss Myrtle Stiegelmeyer of Van Horne married Nicholas Noelisch of Oregon MO at the parental home on Wednesday November 28 at noon. Rev H C Schluter conducted the ceremony and the couple departed for their future home on Thursday morning amid wishes for happiness.
Mr and Mrs Ferdinand Smith celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday Nov 25 in the presence of their children and grandchildren. He is 82 and she 72, born in Germany, married in New York, lived in Benton county near Ur bana, moved to Norway six years ago and have since made this their home. Eleven children were born to the union, seven living. Those present were Frank Joe John George Ferdinand Will and Miss Louisa Smith and their families.
Virginia Lourée Williams and Jno F Henry tied in Marion with Rev S P Shaw officiating at the First Baptist church. The ceremony featured a wedding march by Winnifred Hays and was followed by supper and gifts as out of town guests attended. The couple will reside in Marion after the new year.
Joe Merchant a drayman was injured Wednesday afternoon while delivering coal at Frank Brollier’s home. A tug broke and the whiffle tree struck his left leg, causing a compound fracture with one bone protruding through the flesh. He was taken home and Dr. Carle attended him. Recovery expected to be lengthy, with much sympathy from the community.
Thanksgiving day work by the Womens Relief Corps sent quilts pillows and baskets of provisions to the needy. The article notes the value of giving and calls for full attendance at the next W R C meeting to elect officers for the coming year.

Rebecca May Nabholz marked her tenth birthday with a home gathering on Saturday. Guests departed after a well served supper, wishing her many more happy birthdays, while numerous presents were given as tokens of remembrance.
The Norway Cooking Club presented Prof. Rietzel in the opera house Saturday evening with The Devil and the Turk In His Own Country as the second lecture in the course. An electricity lecture with illustrations will be the final number, with date to be announced. Members and guests enjoyed a social evening with Linnie Schloeman honored, and the N C C social circle hosted at John Schloeman’s home with festive refreshments and car nation decorations.
