Blairstown Boosts and Ballad of Local Politics
The Blairstown item touts Greenback candidates versus Republicans with emphasis on Col Summers and rival Wagner Walker. It notes Walker’s debating prowess, Filkins for treasurer, Van Dyke for supervisor, Edwin Clark for auditor, Douglass for superintendent, and J. J. Long’s union support. The piece also covers the new Moravian church dedication, the Blairstown creamery’s milk output, school staffing, and local happenings including a concert, a wind storm, hog cholera losses, and local businesses. The tone mixes partisan jabs with civic pride and community updates.
