A Labor Day Red Cross dance in Benson drew strong public support with a jazz band from Tucson. Net proceeds around 200 dollars will fund bandages and hospital garments. Chairwoman Mrs. E B Thompson led a devoted committee with help from Mrs. A C Smith and W J Bennett.

Will Build Bungalow Work starts next week on a modern five room home for Mrs J A Gumm on her newly purchased tract from T C Diaz on the north side of town. E J Gumm is contractor with help from W B Craft and Joe Ford. The Hollywood residence should be ready by November 1 with the family vacating the Woods place on or before the 7th.

Death of Mrs. W. R. Hurley at 22 in California
Mrs. W. R. Hurley of Clifton died suddenly of heart trouble in Long Beach California on August 29 aged 22. The remains were brought to Benson for burial after a funeral at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jas E Berris. Dr J F Jones of Linn Missouri attended the last rites. Her husband W R Hurley taught at Benson Union High School and was away for the draft when she died.

Road Bond Election Delayed To December In County
Supervisor J M Sparks reports a technical error in appointing the county road commission with filing the petition for the road bond election. The petition was refiled and the election moved to December. Engineers Survey Main County Road From New Mexico to Pima Line
A eight man engineering party under Engineer Barker has worked about three weeks surveying the county main road from the New Mexico line near Rodeo to the Pima county line on the west. They are headquartered at Benson and operate this side of St. David bridge. The survey seeks the best route for a permanent improved road and to provide data for a new road bond issue.
