Wright Walker, manager of the Auditorium and a skating rink, has installed a large stage to accommodate traveling show companies. The stage is well arranged and striking, with elegant scenery painted by Mr. Walker. Footlights will be installed and an orchestra pit planned. He hopes to present a show or series once completed, and Benson may become a regular stop for traveling shows offering better entertainments.
A Monday night band dance at the Auditorium drew about seventy five attendees, raising over $130 from ticket sales and refreshments. The large, well ventilated hall provided comfortable space for a lively evening with an orchestra of F H Greissinger Nick Martinez Carlos Castaneda and Miss Josephine Castaneda. the event opened with a band concert and featured a grand march.
The community's Fourth of July program featured songs speeches and recitations enjoyed by all. A popular barbecue lunch followed with palatable fare and free ice cream. Prizes were awarded after afternoon games and a big dance capped the day as the new schoolhouse progresses toward completion.
The El Paso Herald details W. J. Rand s tour along the Sunset Short Line from Lordsburg New Mexico to Vail station near Benson. Rand notes shorter mileage via the Southern Pacific Cutoff between Lordsburg and Tucson and logs distances from Lordsburg and from Vail with stops at Willcox Bowie San Simon and Steins. He says the new route cuts 42.3 miles versus the Borderland path and averages over 195 miles per hour on the leg to El Paso with continuing notes on gas water and sections along the way.
St David and Robinson held a community Fourth with field sports, dances, races, and a ball game, with no accidents reported. A large crowd gathered at St David, while Robinson carried out its published program to good effect. A. J. Paschall urged farmers to request the Agriculture Department monthly literature list.
