Local Mining Firm Expands Drago on Rail Notched Ore Shipments

Mining and Development Corporation, a Benson group holding a ten year Copper Chief mine lease at Johnson, is now party to the Dragoon Northern railroad lease. Two ore cars were spotted at the Copper Chief for loading Thursday, with twenty on the platform and shipments set at one to two cars daily as rail transport replaces truck haul. Superintendent Rice plans drift on a 400 foot ledge, No. 1 incline to link to the vertical shaft, boosting production and profit potential. Officers include Fishback president, Goetz vice president, with Rice as mining superintendent and Scott master mechanic.

Jas W Skinner, recently staying with relatives in Tucson, broke his arm last week while trying to crank a Ford engine near Silver Bell mining camp about thirty five miles from Tucson. He treated himself at first and lit a roadside fire until a traveler bound for Tucson stopped, towed the car into town, and provided help.

John S. McGuire and John E. McNeil of Pomerene and Jas N. Christenson of St. David for the Government Farm Loan Board visited farms seeking loans. They surveyed land from Benson to Vail, via Empire Ranch and Elgin Sonoita, returning Wednesday. They planned another trip to the San Simon area for about three days.
