Fenton High Plans Expanded Summer School Attendance

Fenton High will run six weeks from June 16 to July 31 with four hours daily five days a week. Students may earn credits in one or two subjects and seniors may take a fifth subject next fall if they attend summer school. Nonresidents may enroll. courses include drivers education, tennis, geology, architectural drawing and recreation. Registration is handled by the administrative office.

Memorial Day Parades and Services Across North DuPage

North DuPage communities plan Memorial Day observances with parades in Itasca Addison and Bensenville and services in Roselle Bloomingdale and Lombard. Itasca parade starts 10 a.m. with others to follow. Bensenville hosts the largest with 40 units and a reviewing stand at VFW Post 2149.

DuPage approves compromise multi family building code

The DuPage County Board of Supervisors passed an updated Standard for construction of multi family dwellings in unincorporated areas and in towns with lax local codes. The changes lower architect requirements for smaller buildings and reduce wall fire rating from two hours to one and a half, while removing sound transmission rules for now.

Roselle Sidewalk Plan Sparking Legal Threats

Mel Marvin of 218 Thorndale Road warned the Roselle Homeowners Association may sue the Roselle Village Board over a sidewalk program. more than 30 residents protested the plan forcing homeowners to pay via special assessment while offering self-install options as village plans expand sidewalks for safety amid population growth.

Underground Entrance to O'Hare Debated by Officials

Henry Yamanaka of the Illinois Division of Highways says a west underground entrance to O'Hare is unlikely due to high costs and underground utilities plus disruption to the airport runway. John Varble, Bensenville president, claims plans to run beneath York Road for a west entrance are nearly sure.

Four Fenior High grads to be honored at memorial assembly

Four former Fenior High School students killed in Vietnam will be honored at a 10 a.m. assembly with a plaque bearing their names. Lance Cpl. Conrad Lange of Wood Dale Sgt. Phillip Essig Pfc. John Heaps and Sgt. Alan Marshall of Bensenville died in 1967 1968 and 1969. Parents will attend the ceremony at the school.

Bensenville Carnival Opens Tonight At Central Park

The Bensenville Park District carnival runs tonight 7 to 10 at Central Park Church Road and Main Street with Memorial Day hours 7 to 10 and an extra Saturday 11 p.m. closing. Proceeds help fund July 4 fireworks. Lifeguards sought to open the pool this weekend if available.

Radio duo to lead Roselle parade honoring Gary Steger

Chuck Benson and Kurt Russell of WIND radio will lead Roselle Ros e parade June 8 honoring Gary Steger. The winner queen will receive a $100 cash prize with $25 savings bonds for runners-up and charm bracelets for all contestants. An American Legion carnival runs June 5 to 8 after a three year gap. The 1:30 p.m. parade starts at Trinity Lutheran Church.
