Dedication of Lutheran Deaconess Home at Park Ridge
The dedication of the Deaconess Home at Lutheran General Hospital Park Ridge will be held at 3 p.m. July 27 on the lawn outside the School of Nursing building. Rev. Harold Hasheim will conduct the service followed by a reception and open house. Deaconesses moved to the fourth floor home in May 1968 after relocating from Chicago. The movement began in 1836 in Kaiserwerth Germany with Florence Nightingale training there in 1851 and reached the United States in 1849 with staff for Pittsburgh's Protestant and Lutheran Hospital.

DuPage County Fair to Revive Horse Pulling Contest
The DuPage County Fair will bring back a horse pulling contest on July 25 to test draft team strength. Over 20 teams are expected in two divisions light under 3000 pounds and heavy over 3200 pounds with 770 dollars in cash prizes. Events run July 24 through 27 at Manchester Road Wheaton with 4H, open class shows, rodeo and exhibitions.
