Residents of Mohawk Terrace face a damp thaw as spring arrives. The column notes neighborhood concerns about lingering dampness and the round of home repairs spurred by seasonal moisture.
Joseph Imburgia 20 of Roselle was arrested by Itasca police for reckless driving after veering from Irving Park Road onto Rush Street and into a first floor living room at 247 S Rush St No one was inside the apartment and Imburgia was later released on a $50 bond. He refused hospital treatment after being revived and was taken to St Alexius Hospital for a release.
Sixty Mohawk elementary pupils in Bensenville crowded Schaum burg Airport to greet President Nixon last Friday. Three students reached the front to shake his hand, with James Scalfaro and Victor Rodriguez expressing thrills. Senator Percy and Gov. Ogilvie accompanied Nixon, and one eager pupil arrived at 7 20 a.m. for the trip.
Ten beauticians led by Pete Lombardi of Glamour Isle Salons set up a mobile parlor in the Bensonville Home recreation room for National Beauty Salon Week. About 20 women received free permanents, shampoos and sets as volunteers from Bloomingdale Medinah Roselle Welcome Wagon served coffee and cookies. Mario Tricoci co hosted with other operators from Lompardi’s salons and the Tricoci School of Cosmetology.
In Chicago and elsewhere lawsuits challenge bar licensing as a civil rights issue. In DuPage County women have long worked in taverns but face resistance from some male workers. Bartenders say women can mix drinks as well as men, while licenses remain limited to owners or relatives. A veteran Addison bartender notes growing female patronage and the need for safety amid drunken crowds.
A Prairie State Story League meeting in Addison features Mrs. Helen Bingaman telling a fairy tale to five women, illustrating how storytelling engages adults and children. Members discuss using stories for education and therapy, and the Addison group, with 25 members, promotes the art across DuPage County.
Abe students enjoy a rare four day holiday as Lincoln’s birthday falls on Thursday this year. State schools will observe the celebration on Mondays starting next year under a new law passed last year.
