Hoosick budget hike eyed for town tax rise
Hoosick town faces a tentative 1977 budget with 24 710 40 more in tax revenues. Pay raises for town workers, especially highway crews, drive the rise while a 45 cent per hour increase secures a majority vote. Contingency funds for a building permit system and a planned second budget session follow. A beer party at a gravel bank drew legal action threat from a homeowner.

Historic Munro Hawkins House Faces Zoning Hurdles
At Shaftsbury Zoning Board discussions with prospective buyer Ronald Spivak of Mahopac New York raised a host of zoning issues for the 1807 Munro Hawkins House on Route 7. Spivak seeks to convert the home into a craft center with three apartments and a garage shop, plus a goat barn, while dedicating land for parking amid limits of the commercial zone. Board members warned a variance and state permits would be needed, with concerns about percolation tests septic capacity and creek pollution. Spivak plans to live in one unit and rent others to artists, but reserved final approval pending formal application and state review.
