The Bennington Board of Civil Authority released decisions on 1966 assessment appeals. Most appellants won reductions from lister figures, but the rulings are not final and go back to the listers for a new review before the Grand List is filed.
The Transport Workers Union announced a 12 hour postponement of a nationwide strike against American Airlines, citing progress in contract negotiations and a 6:45 p.m. EDT strike deadline. Both TWU and American stated flights would continue to depart on schedule as talks proceed, with negotiators meeting overnight to avert a strike that could affect 44 cities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Vermont Highway Board approved the general route for the four lane U S 7 relocation through Bennington County with two changes one affecting Shaftsbury and the other the Arlington interchange. The arterial will run between Pownal and Manchester as part of a broader Southwestern Vermont highway program. A public hearing will determine the Shaftsbury change.
Bennington selectmen were told by Town Counsel Norton Barber that a bond vote on a water expansion could not be held on general election day due to a legal technicality.
