Drought and picker woes threaten New Hampshire apple crop
Concord New Hampshire Agriculture Commissioner Frank Buckley warned the state may lose about 1 million of a predicted 5 million dollar apple crop due to drought heat and a shortage of experienced pickers. He noted 174 growers hired inexperienced domestic labor after Canadian workers were restricted, risking repeats next year if migratory labor rules stay. Buckley cited political friction over labor control and argued locals have proven unreliable.
