New Comet Discovered By Amateur In Britain
A new 10th magnitude comet named Alcock was discovered Sunday night by amateur astronomer G E D Alcock of Great Britain and verified by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The sighting, reported Monday, places the object in Hercules and visible with medium telescopes, lacking a typical gas tail. This follows Tokyo’s Ikeya Seki discovery a week earlier. Meanwhile local political discussions cover subdistrict chair appointments and campaign logistics for Republican candidates in adjacent towns, with Oct. 25 set for a joint party meeting and plans for car pools to a Burlington fundraising event.
