The Warren Commission blames both news media and Dallas authorities for public confusion and interrupted proceedings after Lee Harvey Oswald’s death. It urges a press ethics code to protect investigations and fair trials, noting police laxity and crowded scenes hindered interrogation and fueled rumors.
President Johnson orders an immediate review of the Warren Commission recommendations by a four member panel led by Treasury Secretary Dillon and including Atty. Gen. Katzenbach CIA Chief McCone and McGeorge Bundy. The panel will assess security improvements and report back with suggested actions.
The Warren Commission concludes Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in Kennedy's Dallas murder with no proven foreign or domestic conspiracy. It cites Oswalds troubled background, notes security lapses, and offers recommendations to improve presidential protection. The 888 page report is summarized in today’s Banner. A 15 year old boy, Brian P Poor, hanged himself with his belt in his West Braintree home on Sunday. Medical authorities ruled the death a suicide. The report also notes U S Senator Goldwater's campaign tour focusing on crime and corruption, foreign policy, and federal interference in local affairs, with unity as a recurring theme.
Barre, Vt. reports nearly all funds secured for a new electronics manufacturing plant. Ernest H. Bancroft of the Barre Area Development Corp says about 98 percent of the $200,000 needed has been pledged, with 50 initial jobs and potential growth to about 200 within three years.
