Wyoming Kids Served Deer Meat Debates Cheaper Lunches
Wyoming schoolchildren eat some of the world’s costliest meat when they receive it via state lunch programs. The venison comes from game-law confiscations and, after inspection, is served for about 30 cents per meal. Hunters pay travel and permit costs, but the meat is distributed to schools, orphanages, and civic groups. Concerns arise over large quantities of meat from depopulated game herds and the fate of the meat once processed. A separate public notice in Bennington, Vermont, calls to vote at an October 6 meeting on tax bill timing, tax-booklet planning, and other town business.
