The Vermont Citizens Party dissolves after three Democratic electors withdraw on the eve of a state investigation into petition signatures for Johnson Humphrey. Secretary of State Howard Armstrong says the case is closed as major parties remain on the November ballot.
A pulpwood truck driven by Ald K. Currier, 36, of Richmond killed when it struck a tree after plowing through a herd of 10 cows in Bridport Vermont. Five cows died and the others were injured. Route 125 westbound scene. cows owned by Stephen Cooke.
New York UPI report shows Sen Hubert Humphrey demanding Sen Barry Goldwater clarify his position on the inevitability of World War III brinkmanship and Social Security. Humphrey accuses Goldwater of blurring issues in the campaign.
The Warren Commission handed to President Johnson its volume bound report on Kennedy's assassination. Chief Justice Warren and six colleagues carried the thick volume into the White House to a private meeting in the cabinet room. The commission had been formed on November 29 to investigate the slaying and the findings will be released Sunday night.
The Peking People's Daily mocked Tass claims that U S destroyers sank three ships in the Gulf of Tonkin incident. China said Tass alone reported such news while the United States disputed it and suggested the event was fabricated to justify actions against North Vietnam.
West Berlin and East Germany signed a border pass pact allowing about 800000 West Berliners with East Berlin kin four visits per year. The deal, signed at East Berlin government HQ near the wall, includes emergency or special visits and opens during Christmas Easter and Pentecost.
