Cider fest planned in Arlington with old time fiddlers and events
Arlington hosts a October 9 cider festival at the Arlington Farm Museum with a working press, cider and doughnuts. The Arlington Area Bicentennial Committee approved plans, adding square dancing in cooperation with St James Church Harvest Festival and Arlington Garden Club Street Sale. Clyde Dunlap will loan the press. Harry Hayden will organize the fiddlers. Independent items note Rescue Squad flea market October 3 and an annual Fourth of July fireworks project. The Dorset Field Club elected Carol McNealus president, the first woman in club history, with multiple officers and board members reelected or elected. The club report praised facilities, finances, and growing paddle and platform tennis activity. Future plans include a 1977 Fourth of July celebration and possible bicentennial ball and fashion show, with dates to be refined and a Maple Fest proposed if volunteers are available. The herb garden at the Farm Museum was highlighted, and the next Bicentennial Committee meeting is October 5.

Dogs blamed for sheep kills in Jericho farm
A pack of marauding dogs is blamed for killing at least 17 sheep on Robert Brown’s farm this summer with the 17th carcass found Monday. Dr. James Wadsworth of the University of Vermont Extension Service warns a dog that has tasted blood could become a predator, though human attacks are unlikely. Brown has notified state Fish and Game wardens, the extension service, Jericho town officials and his attorney. Vermont law may allow action against a town or dog owners if identified.
