Call to Duty recalled at Company C reunion

The 95 members of Co. C 172nd Infantry 43rd Division from Bennington gathered at Mt Anthony Country Club to recount their activation during the Korean War. Capt Joseph Krawczyk recalls the July 17 years ago call up and the unit’s mistaken assignment that sent many to Munich instead of Korea during the early days of the conflict. The men had trained recruits at Camp Pickett Virginia after Camp Drum New York, then faced a surprising path away from combat as they fulfilled Army manpower needs.
