Governor Sargent veto seeds plan for Massachusetts lottery
Gov. Francis W. Sargent says he will seek a bipartisan commission to study a state lottery if lawmakers override his veto. He argues the bill would not deliver the claimed $30 million to $60 million for cities and towns and would centralize patronage in the hands of State Treasurer Robert Crane. Democrats aim to override in both chambers as the House prepares to vote, while Senate resistance remains possible.
