Six Die In Brooklyn Fire
Fire in a three story frame apartment building in Brooklyn killed six people. Top floor was fully afire when responders arrived. All six bodies were found on the third floor, believed to be three families. Fire quickly controlled, cause undetermined. The disaster was New Yorks worst since a Manhattan office blaze that killed 15 in late February.

Foster Named To Head State Scenery Council
Gov. Deane C. Davis announced the appointment of Thomas H. Foster of Bennington to chair the Vermont Scenery Preservation Council. He succeeds Anthony Farrell of Norwich who resigned earlier this year. Foster has shown active conservation interest in Bennington and the county and serves on the Bennington Town Planning Commission and the Bennington Regional Planning Commission as it develops a countywide plan for development in the next 30 years.
