Senate panel votes stricter Medicaid fraud laws
The Senate Finance Committee unanimously approved a bill to make fraud in public health programs a felony with up to five years in jail and a $25,000 fine. The measure, extending to Medicare, creates a fraud office, tightens ownership disclosures of so called Medicaid mills, and extends peer review to outpatient services. It bans turning over Medicaid claims to factors and attaches anti fraud provisions to a House bill.
