Bond Issue At Stake Tomorrow For Mt Anthony School

Bennington School District voters head to the polls Tuesday to decide a proposed 1.575 million bond to renovate and expand Mt Anthony Union junior high. If approved, a Mt Anthony Union district meeting will decide rental terms to cover costs, with renovations beginning this year and new construction possibly next spring. If defeated, state requires expensive alterations to the aging Bendi building to gain public school approval. Supporters argue the upgrades fit community needs, including heating, toilets, ramps for special education, wiring, and improved corridors, with 10 new classrooms plus cafeteria expansion planned.

Ford offers conditional amnesty for Vietnam draft evaders

President Ford proposes conditional amnesty for thousands who evaded the draft or deserted from 1964 to 1973 in exchange for up to 24 months of public service and reaffirmation of allegiance. Applications must be filed by January 31, 1975. a presidential clemency board will review cases, prioritizing those jailed for offenses. Approximately 15,500 potential eligibles exist.

Moscow court fines artist in open air abstract show

In Moscow a court sentenced artist Nadezhda Elskaya to 15 days for hooliganism after a Sunday open air abstract art display was dispersed by police using bulldozers and water trucks. About 500 people watched as canvases were ripped away and several foreign correspondents were attacked.

Nixon holdovers soon to leave the White House as Ford shapes his staff. Gen. Alexander Haig Jr. will depart to command NATO, while Robert T. Hartmann wields influence as top adviser and speechwriter. Vermont Bar backs marijuana legalization and critiques Nixon pardon

The Vermont Bar Association voted to support legalizing marijuana and criticized President Ford for Nixon’s pardon. The marijuana plan would allow sale through state liquor stores to adults 18 plus with rules on purity potency and price. The group also opposed not enforcing laws for casual use and urged Ford not to grant further Watergate pardons until appeals finish.
