Village vote on five Bennington families water hookup
A special village meeting set for September 28 will decide if five Bennington Flats families may connect to the main water line, potentially affecting an insurance settlement over contaminated private wells nearby. The five households face cleanup costs, possible deep-well options, and possible legal action if negotiations with insurer continue.

Cree Urges Congress to Drop Dickey Lincoln Project
In a letter to Congress Albert A. Cree as chair of the Electric Coordinating Council of New England urged deleting the Dickey Lincoln School hydro electric project on the St John River Maine from the Rivers Harbors and Flood Control Bill. He argued it would not lower power costs and that investor owned utilities could deliver savings with no government money. He noted the bill passed the Senate without hearings and House committee afforded time to oppose. He contrasted with building modern large scale nuclear and thermal plants for base load and peaking. In Kirkby England Mrs Mary Brooks gave birth to twins, the couple’s 12th child in eight years, a possible record.
