Economy growth forecast disputed by Treasury chief Simon
Treasury Secretary William Simon says no new action is needed to keep the economy on course, citing existing monetary and fiscal policy to curb inflation and raise employment. He hints at uncertainty over extending the $22.8 billion 1975 tax cut beyond this year. UPI boxscore notes inflation at 14.4 percent annual rate, unemployment at 8.4 percent in August, and July CPI up 1.2 percent.
