Labor Day Weekend a Cool One in New England
Police reported a quiet Labor Day weekend from Maine to Connecticut due to chilly fall like weather and vigilant enforcement. In Maine 600 National Guardsmen and 100 state troopers left Saco Armory after the holiday. Holyoke authorities anticipated a Hell's Angels appearance but the Holyoke race proceeded without incident. Authorities credit cool weather, prep measures, and public cooperation for avoiding last year’s Weirs Beach riots. About 10,000 youths caused damage there last year with over 100 arrests.
