No more nuclear plants vows state Sierra Club

Hartland The executive committee of the state Sierra Club voted unanimously for a moratorium on new nuclear power plant construction and limited existing plant output to 50 percent of design capacity to reduce hazard risks. The club also urged PSB to cut power line widths and pole heights, favor selective cutting and feathering, and to require environmental impact statements. A floodplain zoning proposal tied to Corps of Engineers projects was tabled pending cost data. Debris clearance would target only debris endangering bridges and culverts, opposing major rechanneling. The organization, the nation’s largest conservation group, lists 500 members in the state chapter led by Sen. Herbert G. Ogden.
