Dr Norman Pellett at the University of Vermont advises planting bulbs in fall for early spring blooms. Crocus grape hyacinth narcissus daffodil hyacinths and tulips can be forced to flower by mid winter. Store potted bulbs in a cool dark place 40 to 50 degrees for 6 to 12 weeks then move indoors to 60 degrees in partial shade until shoots green then place in full light. Maintain soil with loam sand peat mix and plant bulbs right side up with soil just covering tips. Water thoroughly and keep soil level a half inch below rim after watering. After flowering replants outdoors.
