Kennedy Warns Cuba's Reds Against Use of New Arms

President Kennedy warned the United States will use whatever means necessary to prevent Cuba from using Soviet arms against the Western Hemisphere. He outlined shipments to Cuba including antiaircraft missiles and torpedo boats, while stating there is no organized Communist combat force in Cuba.

Selectmen and Veterans Group Plan New Memorial

Bennington Selectmen and the Veterans Memorial Committee agreed to replace the old wooden veterans memorial with a simple inscribed stone. A new site near the Girls Club corner was tentatively chosen, with a large veterans book to record names, service branches, ranks, and burial places. Oil Company Plane Explodes Killing 13 Feared

An Ashland Oil and Refining Co twin engine Lockheed Lodestar crashed near Ravenna Ohio on Tuesday night killing thirteen people including several executives. The plane was en route from Cleveland and Buffalo to Ashland Kentucky for a sales meeting when it exploded over Lake Milton causing a crater and widespread wreckage. Local resident Richard McKenzie described a screaming noise and red spinning lights before the fiery crash.

U S Planned Pacific Nuclear Tests By Mid September

Honolulu report says the United States plans to resume high altitude nuclear tests over the Pacific by mid September. Repairs to a Thor booster launch pad on Johnston Island, destroyed July 25 by a rocket failure, are nearly complete, a Joint Task Force 8 spokesman said Tuesday.
